Talk to two or three campaign coordinators, ward officers, or political consultants first. Ask them where their biggest pain points are. Ask what they are currently paying people to do manually. Then quote them a solution before you open VS Code. If they say yes, now you build. That is not laziness. That is how real software businesses actually work.
The developers who are going to eat well from 2027 election tech are already making those calls right now, in 2026, while there is still time to build properly, iterate, and collect testimonials.

04 Real Talk on the Risks
Election tools have a shelf life. If you build something hyper-specific for a candidate who loses in the primary, you start from scratch. This is why you want tools that solve universal campaign problems, not candidate-specific ones. Volunteer management, incident reporting, broadcast messaging, and results dashboards work for any election, any party, any cycle.
Also, and I am not playing with this: legal awareness matters. Read Nigeria’s NDPR data protection guidelines before you collect a single voter record. A data scandal can end your reputation as a developer faster than a bad client review ever will.
Start with simple web tools. Lightweight apps. Dashboards you can demo in a browser. You do not need a native mobile app on day one. You need a client who is willing to pay on day one. Build to that.
